Wine, Beer and food dinner

Buzz, Manager of The Glasshouse gives his own views in advance of the Ashes series this summer.
Everyone is asking me which side of the fence a kiwi bloke like me will be on.

I am nostalgic when it comes to sport. Have a long memory where sport is concerned. I remember the good times, I remember the bad times.

Mission in life is simple, enjoy a good beer with mates, a little good food, preferably a hangi (more about that later) and several great wines and pay recognition to some of the memorable moments in New Zealand sport.

I grew up and idolised blokes like Richard Hadlee, Colin Meads, Beegee Williams, Peter Snell, John Walker, and of course me mates Bullet, Filth Oliver and Gazza Knight. These guys were legends. I remember every special moment of their careers and I still havenÍt forgotten (nor any other Kiwi) the event of the 1st of February 1981. A day we now know as ñunderarm 81î on this date 11 of New ZealandÍs finest men resplendent in tight fitting beige went into battle with the enemy, the Australian cricket team.

Underarm BowlingMy flatmate at the time, Captain Geoff Howarth, took us KiwiÍs through 99.5 overs and we were on the verge of an unlikely victory when the Chappel brothers disgraced themselves and their nation with the very last delivery of the match, they bowled underarm to prevent our main man, Brian McKechnie from hitting a six to draw the match. This dastardly act lives on in New Zealand even more then the Frogs bombing the Rainbow Warrior. So you can see my Pommie mates I will don the white shirt and sing ñSwing Lowî & ñJerusalemî with you and they will be sung with gusto. And IÍll join hands with my great English mate Bob Willis, former England Captian, fast bowler, bob Dylan fan and all round top bloke.

DonÍt get carried away though, me Kiwi passport will be in me back pocket and when the nightÍs over I will revert to been a one eyed All Black All Whites supporter.

Come and enjoy! I think it will be one of the most fun nights you can have with your pants on.
